SAUA

History of how South African Unemployed Association was founded

In January 2016, the founder of this unique organisation Melissa Raphalalani born in Limpopo and decided to relocate to Johannesburg, Gauteng after matriculating to study further, graduate and thereafter secure a job. Technically, a lot of people relocate from their provinces and countries for a similar purpose.

The idea of forming this organisation started when the founder lost her job (personal experience) and people around her facing the same challenges including SAUA board members.  It is a stressful situation that anyone can overcome with a support structure.

As the idea manifested the founder started a research on how to bring change in South Africa through Social development in order to help employees who becomes unemployed due to dismissal, retrenchment and resignation overcome the challenges faced after losing their jobs in Gauteng. The findings were to register a non profit organisation specifically designed for employees who becomes unemployed due to dismissal, retrenchment and resignation which will be a basic foundation support structure and bridge the gap that we face in Gauteng.

The idea was presented to the board members who faced the same challenges namely, Nthabiseng Hlatshwayo, Groovy Ntsoane, Violet Thene, Portia Mtshali, Nokuthula Mhlambi, Nomveliso Mdingi and Dintle Litha. SAUA board members supported the idea of registering a non profit organisation to serve our people and promote Social development.
